Watch in HD!!!!! This is a song off of my new EP called 'Titan'. This is by far one of the most favorite songs I've written, and I think the drum parts are really fun because a lot of the fills can be up for interpretation. I wanted to upload a drum play through for this song to introduce the release of my newest EP 'Titan', which I will have out on September 2nd!!! As usual, it will be available for free on Bandcamp!
I've taken a bit more of a minimalistic route in mixing the drums on this video. I had some requests in the past from people who wanted to hear what my drums sound like without so much processing. I also listened to past drum videos and realized that I really do over process my drums in some older mixes!!! So this time, I tried leaving things a lot more natural. The only heavy compression going on is on a parallel bus, and I am using multi-band compression on the entire mix. Other than that, I have an SSL compressor on the master before the limiter doing maybe all but 2 to 3 dB of gain reduction... As far as EQ'ing, I've really just high and low passed a lot of things for clarity. I kind of surprised my self at how little I used to throw this mix together!!! There are drums from the actual song still in the mix, but I did that on purpose just so my natural drums would fit in more with the final mix I will be releasing on the EP! Thats pretty standard for a lot of my videos... Especially covers as I've never removed drums from songs that aren't mine!
I've also tried using in some new room microphones in this mix. I have another room right next to my tracking room thats all hardwood floors, exposed walls, and mirrors. So its really reflective and 'fluttery'... My friend Adam Nolly Getgood and I decided to mess around with some different mic placements, and we ended up mic'ing this other room just as an experiment. It ended up completely changing my drum sound, and I was very please/shocked with the results!!! Anyways, majority of any reverb that can be heard in this mix is mainly from those room microphones!!! I'm still getting used to using those room microphones in my mixes, but I hope to get better and cleaner with it!!!
