Seven hours into a secret interview in an unremarkable motel room, something changed. One of the two sources received a communication he would not explain, and told her plainly - we are going to have to bring guns. A duffle bag came out. Weapons were placed around the room. She filmed the final two hours of the most important interview of her career surrounded by them, praying that not one would be used, while the two men told her they would protect her at all costs. Nobody would say what the threat was.
She got home with the footage, called her editor, and started cutting immediately. Then the phone rang. Both men reported that their cell phones had been destroyed from the inside out. What followed was, in her words, one horrible thing after another - their offices moved against them. And in the years since, it has reached her too: tapped, followed, threatened very seriously in 2025, and hurt in a way that made the surveillance impossible to ignore.
