Programmer Viktor “w1k” Čech has just dropped the first playable build of his Atari 8‑bit port of Another World (Delphine Software, 1991), powered by the VBXE graphics board. Just two months after showing an early recreation of the game’s intro, the project has now evolved from a simple tech demo into a fully interactive experience.
On AtariAge, Viktor admitted he didn’t expect things to progress this far. He explained that when he first attempted to recreate the intro, performance issues made a full game seem “impossible” and the results were “very slow.” That early demo successfully reproduced part of the original opening sequence using the VBXE expansion, but it also exposed major performance challenges.
Now, with this new playable version, the project has taken a huge leap forward—showing what’s possible when passion meets clever engineering on classic hardware.
