At ISI's America 500 Gala for Western Civilization, Annette Kirk, President Emerita of the Russell Kirk Center for Cultural Renewal, accepts the Charles H. Hoeflich Lifetime Achievement Award.
In her remarks, Mrs. Kirk reflects on 66 years of association with the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, beginning with a student conference in 1960 where she first met Russell Kirk and ISI's long-time president Victor Milione. She shares the story of how ISI shaped her life, from attending ISI's first summer school at Grove City College, to hosting decades of ISI student seminars at the Kirk family home in Mecosta, Michigan.
Drawing on Edmund Burke's vision of the eternal contract joining the dead, the living, and those yet to be born, Mrs. Kirk speaks to ISI's enduring mission: cultivating an education for ordered liberty, nurturing a community of souls, and advancing a politics of prudence.
The Charles H. Hoeflich Lifetime Achievement Award is ISI's highest institutional honor.
