Elementary students and those entering middle and high schools had their first day of class Monday in Anne Arundel County. Students in grades 1-6 and 9 returned to school while the rest of the district's students start classes on Tuesday. Superintendent Mark Bedell said AACPS is in its best staffing position for the first day of school in his career, with only 20 teacher vacancies and no bus driver vacancies. He credited salary increases and the district's culture and climate for the improvement.
