0:15 Spot climbers near the top of Mt. Annapurna on summit night!
On the night of 15th April 2021, Sirbaz, Joshi, and other climbers left Camp IV of Mt. Annapurna for a summit push.
It was their third attempt in three nights to reach the summit.
The first summit push on 13th April didn't succeed as lines couldn't be fixed to the top in time. The second summit push on 14th went unsuccessful because teams ran out of rope. A heli from Kathmandu had to be called upon to drop off 800m of rope at Camp IV (6,900 m).
When all seemed sorted out, thunderstorm and heavy snow threatened plans for the third summit push. But eventually, the weather conditions started to improve, and the final summit push was on at 11:30 pm.
Before I went to bed, I set up the camera facing Mt. Annapurna in time-lapse mode to capture the mountain for the entire night. The camera took over 1,000 images, snapping one picture every 20 seconds for a total duration of six hours.
A week later, I put the individual images together in a time-lapse video. It took an entire day to process 1,000 raw photos in 6K resolution. When I played back the video, I couldn't believe that the photos had captured the light from the headlamps of mountaineers climbing between 7,000-7,600m altitude, just below the summit.
The night of 15/16th April 2021 was a special one for the mountaineers on Mt. Annapurna, and I feel lucky to have captured that on camera.
The next day, Sirbaz and Joshi became the first Pakistanis to stand atop the summit of Mt. Annapurna.
Meanwhile, the Sony Alpha 7III camera stayed on another 12 hours capturing another 2,000 images of the summit day. But, since it was a wide-angle shoot, it's not possible to spot climbers in the day images even if I zoom 10,000%. After all, they were kilometers away!
