Ann Pettifor is a British economist who’s spent decades calling out the global financial system for what it is—a system that serves the wealthy few while leaving the rest to deal with the fallout. She helped lead the Jubilee 2000 campaign to cancel crushing debts in the Global South, and she’s been warning about financial crises long before they hit the headlines.

In her upcoming book The Global Casino, she lays out how big finance moves money across borders with no accountability, driving up debt, fueling inequality, and making it harder to tackle climate breakdown. At a time when ordinary people are being told to tighten their belts, while the money markets remain untouched, Pettifor argues it’s the financial system—not working people—that needs to be reined in.
