A fully procedural, auto-adaptive text animation system in DaVinci Fusion — inspired by Simon Ubsdell’s tutorials, but taken a step further. Animate each character individually, with no manual adjustments needed.

Learn how to create a fully procedural text animation in DaVinci Fusion.
This advanced technique lets you animate each character automatically while adapting to any text or composition changes.
A complete breakdown of a flexible, node-based setup inspired by Simon Ubsdell’s work.

This tutorial was inspired by Simon Ubsdell and his brilliant work on text animation — both in Apple Motion and Fusion. Simon’s tutorials are always a great source of learning, and this one was no exception.
However, I wanted to explore a slightly different approach: creating a fully procedural, auto-adaptive system that can animate each character individually, while automatically adapting to any change in the text or the composition’s duration.
The goal here is to make the setup as flexible and scalable as possible, without requiring any manual adjustment when you modify your text or timeline.
This is a rather technical workflow, and it’s probably not recommended for beginners, as it assumes some familiarity with Fusion’s expressions, modifiers, and text tools.
I hope this approach inspires you to experiment further and find new ways to push what Fusion can do procedurally.
— Enjoy, and thanks again to Simon for the inspiration!
