In this video for @AdobeVideo After Effects, I use a picture of a birthday cake to show how my wife how to use Shape layers and animate them procedurally. We then use the Gradient Fill option to colour the candle flame and the Glow effect to enchance it.
Next we preocompose the animation so that it can be reused for each candle. Finally, I talk through using the Linear Wipe transition to have the message write on, but we also link the effect on the shadow layer so that we can control both in one go.
