Welcome to "I'll Play You to Sleep" Vol. 4: Music from Animal Crossing! This one was a bit of a journey to get here, haha.
I had the idea for this video ages ago, but it kept getting bumped back until early September when I thought "it'll be something easy I can get done while prepping for Harp Con!" Mmm, no.
The recording and filming of it were done quickly, as I did all the songs in 1-2 takes and did audio and video together. The tone and phrasing in the upper registers was a fun challenge. But then Harp Con took over my life, and even after that, the audio proved to be a bit of a bug bear. My harp and my room have an abundance of low and low-mid frequencies, which means it's tricky to clean up the low end while still sounding warm, and not letting the compression during the mastering phase get too punchy or harsh.
It was important to me that this collection be dreamy, and comforting, and peaceful. It needed to be soothing enough so that if you put this on while you drift to sleep, it will carry you off to dreamland. That's so important to me. I'm always incredibly honoured when I get comments that a video helped someone with their insomnia, or to calm down from their anxiety, or helped them rock their baby to sleep.
In the end, after much frustration, I wound up with a mix that I'm pretty pleased with. I hope you enjoy these tracks from across the Animal Crossing franchise, which I picked to encompass that warmth and comfort the Animal Crossing series has brought so many of us. Who among us hasn't booted up the game at 2am when sleep evades us to do a little fishing, or just sit by the ocean and listen to the waves?
