WARNING: There's a fair amount of violence in this one, as well as MAJOR spoilers for The Boy (and the others but they've been out a while), in both the video and a bit in the description. This is also not a shipping video despite a couple personal ships thrown in here.
Welp the twist in this story is that not even I knew this video was coming. Last week I watched The Boy for the first time and I walked away absolutely smitten with Brahms' character, and in my desire to edit for him I ended up coming up with this. This is my fifth time editing to this song, one of which I guess I never finished enough to upload and the other will not be posted, and you'd think I'd be sick of it by now but nope, still love this song. I know the choice is weird considering what this song means to some people aka an overused song for amvs from 2006, but I made this in all seriousness to try and convey the main theme between all four movies: deception. Esther's deception to her adoptive family, Simon's deception to his wife and in turn the hidden cruelty from Gordo, Teddy's deception from not only his doctors but to himself, and Brahms' huge lie about himself and the doll.
This one isn't as fancy as others have been, no real effects aside from the overlays, and while I would've liked to do another visual theme I dunno I felt like that might've overdone it a bit, so while it feels plain to me it also feels just right. Either way, even though the editing was slow as all hell and I took way too long to make this when I could've done it in a day or two easy, it was an absolute joy to work with Brahms and this definitely won't be the last of him on my channel. I don't know if I'll have time to bust out another shorter one with him before June but I'm gunna give it a try anyway. This also marks the first time I actually finished something with Shutter Island, which I've loved ever since it came out. I started a thing or two back in the day but like everything else got pushed to the wayside, so I'm super happy about this. I really wanted to use the alternate ending of The Gift because some of the shots worked so well but alas I could not find it online, just one of the other endings, so while I did get to use it I'm a little bummed because having the other on hand would've made things a tad easier. If you've checked out my tumblr you've probably seen me bounce around what I wanted to make all month so I'm just glad I was able to get this one done, for a while there I thought I was going to leave it unfinished too.
Next month I have three videos planned but they all definitely need a lot of work so we'll see how many I can actually do, I've been wanting to finish two of them for years now but I also wanted to finish the others I had planned for this month and that didn't happen so if I can get even one out I'll be thrilled.

First off, holy hell, never have I had so much going on at one time than the entire time I worked on this. I underestimated how much Id need to do, blocking took way too long, pretty much every day I was taken from editing to do things between helping family to work, and a heavy case of depression hit me extremely hard. Despite all this I tried to put 100% into the shots I could finish thanks to the encouragement from my friends and especially Meg who kept cheering me on, but still there wasnt enough time in the day to tackle such an ambitious video.
In the end I had to cut out a full minute of Alexs day and her reasons for getting on the boat, as well as leaving the last minute of the video still raw, but it was either do that, or hand in something even more incomplete. I want to finish the full video at some point because Im really proud of the full cut, but that wont be coming out for a while depending on how the results go today and because Im probably going to sleep for a week.

Name: Alexis (Alex) Bradshaw
Age: 24
Backstory: Alex has been living with her ex-boyfriend Morgan for almost five years, a situation she cant stand but has no other choice to stay. Having not caught on to his toxic behaviour until it was too late, she resents him and only finds brief solace in her job at one of the local brothers, having been forced to work there to support the both of them. Its there where she meets Kalama (previously claimed by Wonderland Star), and Lillie (claimed by VulpeProductions), and the three become close and find comfort in each other despite their unhappy lives. Alex and Lillie eventually start up a relationship, but thanks to her past with Morgan she finds it hard to admit to herself that her feelings are true and that she deserves to find any happiness thanks to the biggest mistake shed ever made five years ago.
Shes at work when she hears that the boat heading for Roanoke is heading back, and after a lot of self-doubt and crushed hope (unfortunately not shown) she makes her way to the dock, leaving behind her mistakes in the hopes of travelling to the New World and finding her mother and younger sister, who made the trip previously without her. It isnt until night falls and she walks away from the gathered other travelers that she notices Lillie, who had been missing for a couple weeks, crying by herself, but before they can talk the storm hits and effectively distracts her from her missing friend.

In the full video I had a lot of plotting with Star over Alex and Kalamas friendship, but with her audition running out and Amalthea being unclaimed, I ended up having to cut out their work discussion and their meeting on the boat. She still appears during the storm because I didnt want to disrupt the flow of the original block and cut the song even more and risk it sounding disjointed, so I cant wait to show off their planned scenes in the final video. Another thing Im sad about is having to trim out the shots of the other contestants, I managed to get a few in thanks to Vaider, but man do I miss the shots of everyone waving to the crowd.
I hope that my schedule calms down and that the worst is behind me now, so if I do get in then I wont run into this problem again, cause this was the wooooorst having to skip sleep on the final night and still seeing so little done in the timeline.")
