Andrei Samsonov, who was born in Moscow, showed a prodigious talent for music at an early age. He studied at the Gnessin School of Music, playing clarinet as a soloist for an orchestra in his first concerto at the age of 10. By the time he was 14 he had travelled to more than 50 cities with concert programmes. In 1990, Andrei won first prize at the Russian National Competition of Woodwind Players. The following year he was awarded the Grand Prix of the USSR Competition of Woodwind Players, and since that time he has taken part in many major festivals both in Russia and abroad. 1992, Andrei moved to London to study at The Royal College of Music, where he was made the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Scholar. He went on to make his London debut in March 1993, performing Motzart’s Clarinet Concerto at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
