Grand Slam champion Mirra Andreeva said she feels purely "excited and happy" to return to the US Open, reflecting on how her mindset has shifted since making her tournament debut three years ago.
When asked what advice she would offer her 16-year-old self returning to New York, the Russian star emphasized self-compassion over unrealistic expectations.
"Maybe just to be a little bit nicer with myself... not to put so much pressure on myself," Andreeva said. "Just kind of enjoy as a 16-year-old girl who came to New York for the first time to play a major."
She noted that during her debut, negative thinking often clouded her performance when things didn't go as planned, concluding: "Just to be nicer to myself overall, I would say."
She faces Janice Tjen in the opening round on Sunday, August 30.
