In this video I present to you a possible recreation of a Roman wedding. To do this, I had to do some extensive research in both secondary and primary resources. My primary secondary source was The Roman Wedding: Ritual and Meaning in Antiquity by Karen K Hersch. For primary sources, I looked to various prose and poetry authors from antiquity, frescoes from Pompeii and Herculaneum, and funerary inscriptions. Based on all this information, I compiled a possible sequence of events that could have applied, in some form or another, to both the upper and lower classes. Obviously some weddings would have had more and some less of these elements, but I chose to lay out for you a more complete version--a model wedding--from which might conjecture a normal wedding.
