C Vision Productions | Ancient GP9 and SD9 Locomotives on Columbia Basin Railroad (CBRW) and St. Maries River RR (STMA) @CVisionProductions1 | Uploaded 1 year ago | Updated 2 hours ago
In this video, we'll cover two unique shortline railroads in the northwestern United States operating with first-generation EMD power. The St. Maries River Railroad (STMA) and Columbia Basin Railroad (CBRW) employ GP9 and SD9 locomotives to operate their trains, with many of these units at or beyond their 65th year of service as of 2022. We'll begin our coverage in Idaho on the St. Maries River Railroad. We'll follow the railroad's Plummer turn headed west to the Union Pacific interchange, in Plummer, Idaho. The STMA began operations following the abandonment of the Milwaukee Road's Pacific Extension in 1980, with the railroad preserving rail service on the Milwaukee's mainline between St. Maries and Plummer. Highlights include Benewah Lake and Pedee Trestle, with STMA 103 seen working upgrade towards Plummer with a heavy train of forest products from the Potlatch mill in St. Maries. We also catch the Union Pacific local departing Plummer for its return trip to Spokane. From there, we head to Warden, Washington to document the operations of the Columbia Basin Railroad, operating on former Burlington Northern trackage. We'll cover the railroad north to Wheeler (near Moses Lake, Washington), and south to Connell, Washington. CBRW's SD9 and GP9 fleet is put to good use, as they handle some sizable trains across the arid Eastern Washington landscape. Locomotives of MRL, DMIR, and BN heritage handle most of the trains seen in this portion of the video, with a majority of these units wearing Columbia Basin's attractive red, white, and black paint scheme. We hope you enjoy this look at some of the most interesting shortline operations in the Northwest, in "Ancient GP9 and SD9 Locomotives on Columbia Basin Railroad (CBRW) and St. Maries River RR (STMA)"
