The Anbernic RG34XXSP is a pretty great GBA emulation handheld, with a couple weird design choices. Let's take a deep dive and see why this is (nearly) perfect for GBA, but somewhat lacking for all other systems it can play.

Update: as of 22JAN2026, it looks like Anbernic has downgraded this device's RAM amount from 2GB to 1GB (ostensibly because of skyrocketing RAM prices). This won't have an impact on emulation performance (the vast majority of XX devices with this chip have 1GB RAM), but it will no longer provide a PortMaster performance advantage with this particular model.
