InLoveWithFlight | AN UNDERGROUND PARTICLE ACCELERATOR TUNNEL - Visiting the former HERA ring at DESY @InLoveWithFlight | Uploaded 4 years ago | Updated 8 minutes ago
Recently I got to fly inside a former particle collider, as you do. Nothing but your average hadron electron ring accelerator with a 6.3 km (4 miles) long tunnel beneath a densely populated metropolitan area. Fun fact: the place will soon host a detector for hypothetical dark matter particles. If you're into physics, check http://alps.desy.de to learn more about the new experiment.
The detector will be built right at the spot where I dive into the long tunnel.
