My thoughts on this one:
Well, I think it's quite Alan-y. It reminds me of the music I did for DeepSkyVideos "Beautiful Messier Objects" and also Khinchin's Constant. I guess this must just be the kind of music I naturally write.
Sometimes I wonder if everyone has got a little collection of melodies stored up inside them, or perhaps a broader "style" which is the result of all their influences blended together. When we first start to write music, it's difficult to get these ideas out but it's easy to make things sound different, but as time goes on we can't help but repeat ourselves. The challenge is no longer to write, but to break from our "natural" style.
Then I wonder, if this "natural style" does exist, if everyone has one. And if only everyone learned to play an instrument they could tease it out. Or perhaps that could be a job for composers. Just like a painter might get commissioned to capture someone's likness, a composer could be hired to discover a client's inner musical tendancies.
Maybe I should do some kind of a vlog about it. I'd also like to do a vlog on what I think "musical influences" mean.
