FP McCann were the chosen precast concrete supplier by Graham Construction for the new University of York Student Residence Project. 1,480 new student bedrooms will be constructed over 18 blocks across the North, Central and South College. Phase one, housing around 350 bedrooms, commenced in July 2020. A combination of form finished concrete panels and brick clad panels were used in the exterior design. All panels were produced off-site at the FP McCann Byley facility in Cheshire. All panels were glazed at the Byley site and delivered finished ready for rapid installation. Each panel is QR coded and tracked from inception to installation, with control checks at each stage of manufacture. Precast units were delivered to site on a 'just-in-time' basis to eliminate on site storage issues. A team of only 10 efficiently install the panels, walls, floors and stairs. Each floor level on this block was completed in approximately 9 days. This 4 storey blocked is constructed in just 32 days and consists of 86 separate rooms.
