The revamped Terminal 2 (T2) at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) officially opened to travellers in May. Join architect and frequent traveller Jacqueline Chak, who once worked at Foster + Partners – the architecture firm behind the original design of Terminal 1 – as she walks through the new T2 facility with two officials from the Airport Authority Hong Kong: Tommy Leung King-yin, executive director of engineering and technical services, and Steven Yiu Siu-chung, executive director of airport operations.

Together, they explore T2’s structural features such as its feather-shaped roof and floating “tree columns” in addition to facial recognition technology now used at every security gate and the AI-powered self bag-drop machines that can process checked baggage in just 45 seconds.

Nearly 30 years after the construction of HKIA changed the way the world saw airports, T2 is set to continue that momentum and take the evolution of the city’s aviation hub into its next chapter.
