Twelve Gates Twelves Sons Revelation 21:10–14.
One of the miracles of the Bible is its ability to communicate God’s truth as we grow up.
One of the reasons I love student ministry is seeing time and time again the “aha moment” when the light bulb turns on for a student as they come to the bible with more and more questions and realize the Bible has good answers for them.
Although the Bible is accessible to a 4 year old, it will still feed your soul at 90 years old. One of the reasons the Bible has this quality is that it is filled with images and constantly asks us to “look and see,” “behold.”
If we can “behold” a thing we can understand the truth more profoundly.
Today I hope to leave you with a series of pictures connected to our passage in the hopes that these images can stick in your mind throughout the week as you ponder this passage:
A summary of Joseph's Story:
He is the favorite son of Israel (Gen. 37:3).
He is betrayed by his brothers. Judah arranges for them to get 20 shekels of silver for betraying Joseph. (Gen. 37:26-28).
His outer garment is taken off (Gen. 37:23, 39:12).
Thrown him in a pit (Gen.37:24).
They sit down to eat a meal (Gen. 37:25). (Not to spoil the plot - Jews were eating the Passover the night Jesus was betrayed)
Taken down to Egypt (Gen.37:25).
He is put in the dungeon (Gen.39:20).
He interprets two dreams while in prison (wine and bread, death and restoration)
He is brought out of the dungeon and placed at the right hand of the king (Gen.41:40).
He marries a Gentile bride (Gen.41:45).
He rescues the Gentile Egyptians and the family of Israel with the excess grain (Gen. 42:1-3).
Though Joseph was hidden from his brothers he reveals himself and embraces Benjamin and restores the relationship that was broken (Gen.45:1-15)
