Refusing to sacrifice countless civilizations, Master Chief turns against Guilty Spark, rescues Cortana, and destroys the Pillar of Autumn to obliterate Halo itself. Captain Keyes dies after being infected by the Flood, while Master Chief escapes the exploding ring aboard a Longsword fighter.
With Halo destroyed but the Covenant war far from over, Master Chief delivers his iconic promise: "No... I think we're just getting started." This unforgettable ending sets the stage for Halo 2 and the epic battles that follow in the Halo saga.
