An Artist of the Floating World (1986) is set in post-World War II Japan, where the older generation is still grappling with their country's immediate past and its current position as an occupied nation. Masuji Ono is an aging artist who needs to reckon with his own past while trying to live an ordinary life as a widowed father and grandfather.
An Artist of the Floating World is the second novel by the Nobel Prize-winning Japanese-born British author Kazuo Ishiguro.
