On the weekend of October 29-30, 2016, Amtrak once again ran their annual "Autumn Express" this time from New York City's Penn Station, westward joining Norfolk Southern's Lehigh Line across New Jersey, heading into Central Pennsylvania via the Norfolk Southern Reading and Harrisburg Lines where the train would turn around on the eastern and southern most sections of the Norfolk Southern Pittsburgh and Buffalo Lines on the wye at the Rockville Bridge just above Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where in 2014 we caught footage on the train making it's moves across the river in this video: youtu.be/GGXoe81Lrvg

But on this weekend, we skipped the scenic Rockville Bridge and hit the highway south, since, unlike in 2014 where the train took the NS Harrisburg Line both ways, the 2016 Autumn Express returned east on home rails via the Amtrak Keystone Corridor from Harrisburg to Philadelphia, where in rejoined the Northeast Corridor on the last leg back to New York Penn.
Equipment includes:
Amtrak Phase III Heritage P42DC 145
Amtrak Veterans P42DC 42
Amtrak Veterans ACS-64 642
Former Metroliner, Conference car 9800
Phase III Amfleet + 12 other Amfleets
Our video centers around Central Pennsylvania throughout Lebanon, Dauphin and Lancaster County.

0:10 - Amtrak train 805, symbol NS 067, heads west on the Norfolk Southern Harrisburg Line under the automatic signal at 95 at Forge Road in Palmyra. The tracks in the foreground belong to a feedmill that was abandoned a few years ago.
1:15 - 067 was running ahead of schedule across Norfolk Southern, and caught up to a few freight trains in the block waiting to enter Harrisburg Terminal, so, after holding back at Milepost 101, we see 067 again a couple miles later heading through Hummelstown. When the train is going away, CP BURKE (formerly CP TARA—originally named for the Swatara Creek running under the interlocking, later renamed to BURKE after an employee) with its G-type signal heads visibly displays a Limited-Clear signal indicating the train will cross from Main 1 to 2.
2:30 - Prior to 805 leaving Harrisburg to begin its journey east across the Amtrak Keystone Corridor towards Philadelphia, Amtrak 43, the westbound "Pennsylvanian" is seen heading west approaching the city of Harrisburg, where it will then continue west on the Norfolk Southern Pittsburgh Line to Pittsburgh. Today, 43 has P42DC 97 leading with the Morristown & Erie "Alexander Hamilton" private car on the rear.
The farthest track is the Norfolk Southern Royalton Branch, which parallels Amtrak between Harrisburg and Royalton.
3:15 - A few minutes later, 805 heads east on the same track we saw 43 on due to maintenance between STATE and ROY on the close track. The train is still under diesel power, and the P42's give some smoke as they throttle up leaving the city.

4:30 - The next day, we are located back on the NS Harrisburg Line in downtown Lebanon. A lot of people were gathered trackside to witness this special train, which also caught the attention of many bystanders.
5:45 - That afternoon on the Keystone Corridor, 805 races under the new Maibach Lane overpass that replaced the Eby Chiques road crossing. As you can tell, the whole catenary had to be replaced. A fueling industry in the background served by Norfolk Southern has two switcher locomotives on their property.
6:20 - After making an hour stop in Lancaster for photo-runby's and allowing the passengers to detrain, 805 storms through the curve at Bird-in-Hand at 4 in the afternoon. Notice 642 has its pantograph up.
Thanks for watching!!!

![High Hood on the Selinsgrove Industrial Track [4K]
On June 25, 2018, an odd occurrence allowed us to chase a train on some rare and endangered mileage. K21 departs south out of Northumberland with cars for Herndon Reload; however, they have the added task of rescuing an engine and car off of the Selinsgrove IT—a job normally done at night, which apparently had a minor derailment at the mill in Kreamer on their last run. NS GP38-2 5004 will head down light to the end of the line at Kreamer. The P5 horn on the long hood is so clogged and out of tune that only the #4 chime seems to be sounding. While this isnt the most thrilling video in terms of train action, this is, as far as I know, this is the only existing video documenting this line to date on YouTube, and may be the last time anyone films a train here.

We first catch the whole train heading south on the Buffalo Line through Sunbury passing the endangered PRR Position Lights at SF on its way to Selinsgrove Junction. After uncoupling from their train on the Susquehanna River bridge, 5004 proceeds by itself down the branch toward the end of the line, first passing depot in Selinsgrove. We then set up by the lumber plant east of Kreamer, then shot 5004 in the middle of town. The mill was busy with trucks so we were not able to get a shot there (not to mention incredibly back lit). The train then heads back east through Kreamer with a much better sounding P5 horn on the the forward hood.
The Selinsgrove Industrial Track was formerly part of the Pennsylvania Railroads Selinsgrove-Lewistown Line, severed in 1956 between Maitland and Kreamer, the eastern portion, along with the the lead to the power plant in Shamokin Dam, are the last few remaining rails in Snyder County, Pennsylvania. The power plant is no longer served by rail after the coal-fired generators were retired for new natural gas ones built adjacent to the old plant. With a feed mill in Kreamer, as well as another mill just east of there, keeping this short stretch of rails polished, it is very likely that someday soon this line will be abandoned and ripped up, leaving another county in Pennsylvania without any trace of railroad activity (there are currently three: Fulton, Clarion, and Forest). With slow speeds and an expensive river crossing to maintain over the Susquehanna River, Norfolk Southern has been pushing to move the service to the eastern shore to their facility in Herndon. Whether it be politics, logistics, or a strong storm or flood wiping out the river crossing, time will tell just how long these few miles of rails will last.
