Looking back at it, animation in the year of 2022 held a special place in my heart. Despite the disgraceful treatment towards the accessibility and the continuation of countless animation media, the highlights from this years animation has brought me a rollercoaster of emotions that I will not forget. Some of my favorite TV shows and animes to this day either reached their peaks of relevancy or made huge splashes this year. Not only that, 2022 was also arguably the most diverse year in terms of animation highlights so far this decade. Thats why there are about 250 animation highlights here - I even included some that were technically released in late 2021 but only generated conversations in 2022. I want to show you the FULL picture, filled with many spectrums of animation, from the most popular of animes to the most obscure of music videos/indie projects. They deserve love!
Editing-wise, this is far and away the hardest video Ive ever done. Its only less than 13 minutes, but condensing more than 200 sources of animation is really hard, especially when I have to scan through the appropriate clips to decide which ones are going to be used in which part, how it syncs up with the song, and how it segues to the other clips surrounding it. Id say the clip sequencing part took around 5-6 weeks in total. In the end, I made each part of the video special on their own. Each part has its title referencing some animation sources in the video as well as its own style/aesthetic based on the tone of the song (and a bit of color symbolism too, iykyk). My editing software also cannot handle the absolute size of it - I counted around 50-60 crashes throughout the editing process. However, Im very happy with the finished product, especially the last part of the video which made me a little bit emotional. Huge credit and thanks go to the musical genius behind this - Joseph James, I hope you check his stuff out because they are all great.
