Proving once again that this project isn't dead, just progressing very, very slowly. Well, with that obligatory reference to my sporadic upload schedule out of the way, let's get to the point.
The original song heavily depends on the low-bitrate DS samples to provide a significant chunk of the high end, so I had to EQ some of the instruments a bit more aggressively than usual to fix the balance. In fact, this one's actually a perfect example of a song which had its original arrangement designed so heavily around the limitations of the original hardware it was meant to play on that just using the ripped MIDI from the game files and replacing the instruments wouldn't have really worked that all well - it'd result in way too much energy in the low end and way too little at the top of the frequency spectrum. My version still sounds a little too dark for my taste, but it kinda fits the scene, so I eventually decided that it's good enough for now.
