Created by the Otherworlders as a way to solve their Vitae supply problem, the pods mentally torture the occupants to the point of near-death, then administer an amnesia compound and show them their best and happiest memories. Moments later the pod begins the torture again, then amnesia and happiness, repeat. Fear. Hope. Oblivion. A fraction of the Vitae produced is used to keep the occupants alive, therefore creating an infinite energy supply for the Otherworld and their Empress.
The pods have a surprising amount of sounds for something most players wouldn't hang around to listen to (the screaming isn't fun). Minus the screaming, they're quite cool to listen to IMO.
