Ami Williamson is one of those rare, multi-faceted female singers. While her roots are firmly planted in the singer-songwriter tradition, her richly diverse upbringing had her taking the stage not only in opera and classical music but also touring with her father, legendary country music performer John Williamson.
Ami has never been one to follow convention, and her forthcoming album Sing You Out Of Me only reinforces that reputation. During her chat with Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips, the acclaimed singer-songwriter revealed that the new record represents the most hands-on project of her career. Not only did she write every original song, she also recorded and engineered the album in her own studio before co-producing it remotely with longtime collaborator Matt Fell. The experience proved both challenging and liberating, allowing Williamson to trust her instincts and make every creative decision before sending finished tracks to Fell. "I just said, 'This is the take'," she laughed, explaining that for the first time she wasn't relying on someone else to comp vocals or assemble performances.
