One thing I’ve noticed living in Germany is that Americans can spot another American from a mile away. Put two Americans in an airport, train station, or random tourist attraction and there’s a good chance they’ll be swapping life stories within 10 minutes. 😅
Meanwhile, Germans are often a little more reserved. Not unfriendly, just more likely to respect each other’s space and keep to themselves unless there’s a reason to start a conversation.
I’ve always wondered… if two Germans randomly bumped into each other outside of Europe, would they immediately start chatting like Americans do? 🤔 Or would they give each other the classic German nod and continue on their way? 😂
As an American overseas, I’ve met some of the coolest people simply because someone started a conversation. It’s one of my favorite parts of traveling. Sometimes a quick “Where are you from?” turns into a new friendship, travel tip, or dinner recommendation.
Germans, help me out here… if you met another German in the middle of Thailand, Japan, or the U.S., would you strike up a conversation? 🇩🇪👇
