From alpine coasters to castles, lakes, amusement parks, festivals, zoos, hiking, skiing, Christmas markets and easy day trips to other European cities, there’s no shortage of family adventures here, even if you’re a fun teenager 😉
The famous Glockenspiel at Munich’s New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) brings Munich’s history to life with 32 life-sized figures.
The upper level recreates the 1568 wedding of Duke Wilhelm V, including a jousting match where the Bavarian knight defeats his opponent from Lorraine. Below, the Schäffler (barrel makers) dance and spin in circles, representing the tradition that they took to the streets after a plague epidemic to lift the spirits of the people.
The characters move and dance for about 12-15mins daily at 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM, plus 5:00 PM from March through October.
There’s also a smaller nighttime performance at 9:00 PM, featuring the night watchman, angel and Münchner Kindl.
