The Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation is the latest addition to New York’s American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), opening to the public in May 2023. Designed by Studio Gang, the Center’s architecture comes together around a five-story atrium and introduces new exhibition, education, collections, and research spaces to the museum, while also bringing essential yet previously back-of-house functions into public view for the first time to give visitors new insight into the full breadth of the Museum’s diverse collections and active scientific research. The Center is designed to encourage exploration and establishes continuous pathways through the museum’s four-block campus, connecting buildings that were constructed over the course of nearly 150 years.

This unique program includes presentations from both the client and the designer, with participation from the director of the museum, Lisa Gugenheim, and Weston Walker, Design Principal and the Partner in charge of Studio Gang’s New York office.

The presentations are followed by a panel discussion led by Julie V. Iovine, which dives into the collaborative process behind this major project.
