If I only had 6 months left in Germany, I’d make every moment count outside the gate.
Get to know your local town. Slow down and actually experience it.
Walk or run through the neighborhoods, grab fresh bread and pastries from a local bakery, visit the butcher shop, explore German supermarkets, and don’t skip the festivals. That’s where the real culture is.
And I’d make it a mission to discover new local restaurants built around fresh, local products. Places like Das Kupfer Steakhouse in Amberg, less than 30 minutes from Vilseck, are exactly what I’m talking about.
With the possibility of troop reductions in the area, now is the time to get out and support these local spots while you’re still here.
