American Flagfish, Jordanella floridae, are a utility fish well-known for eating hair algae. The footage here is a visual demonstration of their potential utility for consuming duckweed, which is known for rapidly growing out of control. While larger individuals are much more capable of ingesting individual plants, they alone will not eradicate the presence of duckweed in your tank. However, the constant growth of duckweed in the tank will provide a self-sustaining food source for a population of American Flagfish. It is recommended to have a separate tank for growing hair algae, as that will always be their preferred food over the duckweed.
