$Workstations coming for your GPU In 2026, you probably know that AI datacenters are gobbling up RAM and storage, making everything more expensive for us regular folks. But AI isnt content with that: its coming for your graphics cards too. According to market research, consumer graphics card shipments were down in the fourth quarter of 2025, very unusual during the holidays. But enterprise GPUs, much more expensive models that used to be made for things like computer-aided design, animation, and scientific research, were up by by 17 percent. The reason is that these powerful, expensive GPUs are great for developing large language models and other stuff generally referred to as AI. Workstation GPUs are a tiny fraction of the market, only about 2% last year. But they have huge profit margins, as specialized industrial hardware generally does. A shift into more lucrative workstation cards wouldnt be a huge problem in normal circumstances. But with memory so hard to find, and Nvidia and AMD both shifting their limited output to the most profitable parts of the market…it probably means fewer and more expensive graphics cards for PC gamers.
