Late last week, a Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued a 71-year-old woman out of the McKenzie River, east of Springfield, Oregon, after the car she was traveling in fell into the river.
Local police and fire departments were unable to reach her safely due to the swift river current and the Coast Guard was called in to assist.
An a MH-65E Dolphin helicopter aircrew from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station North Bend was dispatched. The crew deployed their rescue swimmer and hoisted the woman to safety. They then took her to the Eugene Airport where she was transferred to EMS.
Fantastic work to all involved including Eugene Springfield Fire, Oregon State Police, Oregon Department of Transportation, McKenzie Fire and Rescue, Upper Mckenzie Rural Fire Protection District, and several others.
