Animals are pretty amazing! We can learn a lot about how certain creatures survive in the wild by studying something called defense mechanisms. In this video for kids, we will learn more about amazing animal defenses!
A defense mechanism is a behavior like playing dead or fleeing; a physical trait like camouflage or spines; or a chemical process like producing toxins. These behaviors all help an animal protect itself from being eaten.
This is super important, because if an animal can avoid becoming prey, it can live longer and have babies, passing along its useful traits to the next generation! This is how defense mechanisms or traits become common in a species over time.
