Did you know that the white speckles, or warts, you see on Amanitas are in fact remnants of the morphology it took at the beginning of its life cycle?
Irrespective of how the warts are formed on the mushroom (from the universal veil, not growing spontaneously out of the cap), they are still referred to as warts as an identifying feature in ID field guides.
As a reminder, Jacqueline has found an Amanita pantherina, a toxic mushroom not to be eaten!
