This level was extremely frustrating. It actually just feels like 4 wave challenges (not good ones) with filler gameplay between all of them. It makes the level very unbalanced and frustrating to play. The two mini waves are the hardest parts of the level, which sucks knowing the second of those two is towards the very end. The gameplay in between isn't all that bad, but the ships in particular feel very awkward.

One thing that surprised me about this level, however, is how it just... wasn't boring to play from the beginning for me. It really could have been boring because almost all of the level is at a really slow speed. I'll give Amalgam credit for that at least.

The session I beat this in was absolutely brutal, as well. I spent 5 hours and almost a third of my attempt count and ended up getting incredibly unlucky, dying past 60% so, SO many times, including once at 93% to a gameplay flaw I didn't know existed until it happened.

Amalgam was just really frustrating and, if you aren't very good with the wave, I highly recommend staying away from it. Additionally, the difficulty of it is completely based on your wave skill. If wave is your best gamemode, this is essentially a free main list demon as of right now.
