In this video, I'll be sharing my personal journey of adjusting to the real world after leaving a heavy Baptist surrounding. It was an incredibly challenging process, and I had to navigate through many changes and uncertainties.
When I first left, everything felt unfamiliar and overwhelming. It seemed almost impossible to answer the question of how to adjust because every aspect of my life had changed. I realized that I had overcorrected in certain ways, trying to find my place in this new reality. For example, I had never cursed before, but I started allowing myself to use explicit language. However, I had no idea how to do it properly and ended up using curse words in inappropriate or nonsensical situations.
The adjustment went beyond just language. I had to learn how to behave in social settings, how to drink responsibly, and how to interact with members of the opposite gender without the restrictions I grew up with. It felt like I was constantly trying to find my footing and often went overboard or made mistakes along the way.
In terms of spirituality, it became a matter of purposeful reconnection for me. I found solace in the things that I know for sure exist, such as my loved ones, nature, and personal experiences. I discovered that I engage better with spiritual practices through activities like meditation, spending time in nature, and practicing yoga. These activities allow me to reconnect with myself, my loved ones, and the world around me. It's almost like a blend of Buddhism and my own personal philosophy.
