SERGEANT ALVIN YORK DEAD
A man who became a legend in his own lifetime is dead. Sergeant Alvin Cullum York wiped out a German machine gun battalion in World War I, winning the Congressional Medal of Honor and 50 other decorations. He refused to capitalize on his heroism and lived and worked among his Tennessee hill people. He said: "This uniform ain't for sale".
