Allen's Hummingbird nest activity from 3-22-2014... Still growing rapidly with feather stubs starting to sprout into actual feathers. The mother bird stopped sitting on him overnight as of 3-20-2014, as he's apparently generating and retaining enough heat on his own with the help of the warm cozy nest. Even though she spends the night elsewhere, she still returns reliably to feed him at least 10 times per day. She's almost always present in the area and will quickly come to defend the nest if needed.
