Dutch Sheets uses the story of the Gibeonites found in Joshua 9 and 10 to claim that the Church administers the New Covenant. Sheets claims that passage is a picture of Christ and the church, with Joshua as a type of Christ. Bob and Jessica refute this claim and show the pitfalls of allegorizing the Old Testament. This leads to false teaching about prayer as well as many false spiritual warfare doctrines. They discuss the common claim that Israel was deceived because they did not pray before entering the covenant. God had already told them through Moses that they were not to make covenants with the pagan nations. Israel did not need to seek new revelations to know what to do, they needed to believe what God had already said and walk in obedience to Him. They also refute Sheets’ claim that it was Joshua and the Israelites who defeated the five enemy kings. Scripture clearly states that the Lord delivered Israel and slew the enemies.
These claims are typical of the New Apostolic Reformation, and we need to reject them. We are called to believe God, not administer His covenant.
