His debut novel, Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All, was on the New York Times bestseller list for eight months, and has been adapted for Broadway and television including a CBS adaptation of the work, starring Donald Sutherland and Diane Lane, that won four Emmy awards. Allan's short fiction work has been featured in The New Yorker, Harper Magazine, The Atlantic Monthly, and The Paris Review. Allan currently lives in North Carolina.
