Nicholas Dawidoff, author of the book "The Other Side of Prospect" chosen for this year’s All-School Read, spoke with the YDS community on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.
Dawidoff gives the YDS community his reflections on the inception and process of writing his prize-winning book. He explains how his New Haven childhood influenced him to write the book, in which the main character is an iconic American working-class neighborhood—New Haven’s Newhallville. He describes the relationship between post-industrial neighborhood poverty and gun violence, and how the problems of New Haven are representative of American problems and virtues.
