Composer's note: String Trio was composed in 1970 for a concert of six new works for a recital at Bennington College. The trio’s three movements use unusual sounds and musical gestures, as well as extended techniques, to create a non-traditional interplay among the string instruments. Though the musical elements may be uncommon, form and expression are not. String Trio won the 1971 Rapaport Prize at Columbia University. This recording, from A-N Recordings, features violinist Monica K. Davis; violist Laura Manko Sahin; Molly Aronson, cello.
