Alise is a Senior Fisheries Scientist who is using mathematics to ensure that fishing levels in the Great Barrier Reef are sustainable. She develops population models for wild fish species to assess how these fish populations will respond to different management procedures. Alise works with large datasets on catch, effort, biology and environmental conditions, and collaborates with experts across many STEM fields.
Alise’s work contributes to the delicate balance between meeting the needs of people and the natural environment. Her work ensures that food stays on the plates of many Queenslanders, jobs are secured for thousands of Queensland fishers, and our reef is protected from damaging levels of fishing.
Alise is passionate about mentoring and tutoring young female and non-binary students, and wishes to make STEM exciting, engaging and accessible to the public by building her online and physical presence as a science communicator.
