This is what happens when a transformer is left on with an active short across one of the leads. Since it is obsolete to replace, I went with plan B and had to use separate power supplies for each required power except the high-voltage displays. They were removed and replaced with the LED kit. They only use 5 volts and works with existing hookups without modifications. (NOTE: you CANNOT mix high-voltage with LED because the Williams system is not designed for this.)
5V 20A for general illumination
18V 10A for feature lights
30V 10A for solenoids (still under testing)
arcade switching power supply for both 5V logic power, LED score displays & controller board and 12V to activate its reset circuit on the CPU board.
18VCT 4A transformer (9V-0V-9V) required to operate the sound board. NOTE: I said that it needs 230V but this is to hook up only both red wires. We only need to hook up the red and black for 120V.
Installed 2 fuse holders: 2.5A SB for switched solenoids, 7A SB for 3 flippers (still under testing)
Final result: 100% working!
This nicest thing about a separate solenoid switching power supply is that there is absolutely no dimming with all the lights!
All switching power supplies have adjustments to fine tune to the correct voltage needed.
UPDATE: I had to install a 120VAC relay to cut power to the 12 volt side to prevent CPU memory from corruption. It operates when turned on and cuts off when turned off.
