🏆 Best of Term - Lighting & Rendering (Winter 2026)

Gnomon BFA student Miles Quigley created this 1970s lab scene, where a scientist discovers alien life, in our Lighting and Rendering 1 course. Miles built a procedural vial generator in Houdini to scatter unique vials across every desk and shelf, alongside the alien, rock, and fluid sims.

One of Miles's biggest challenges was dealing with the fog pass. After rendering a single frame of environment fog, he had to align mesh cutouts with the rest of the footage in Nuke, ultimately solving the problem with rotopaint tools from his Art of Compositing class.

Congratulations, Miles!
