This Netflix survival thriller drops Arisu, a gamer with no direction in life, and his friends Karube and Chōta into a deserted Tokyo where brutal games decide who lives and dies. Each game is tied to playing cards, with hearts testing trust, clubs testing teamwork, and spades testing strength. Their only hope is to outplay the system, extend their visas, and survive the lasers that strike down the losers.
The season builds with deadly twists: Karube and Chōta’s tragic sacrifice in the seven-of-hearts game leaves Arisu broken but determined. Alongside Usagi, a fearless mountaineer, and Chishiya, a cunning strategist, Arisu reaches “the Beach,” a strange resort where players believe collecting all 52 cards will set them free. But power struggles turn violent as Hatter is killed, Aguni seizes control, and the Beach itself becomes the arena for the ten-of-hearts “Witch Hunt,” a massacre that leaves few alive.
By the finale, the shocking truth emerges: some players, like Momoka, were dealers running the games. Just as Arisu begins to piece things together, Mira reveals herself as a mastermind and launches a new round of even deadlier trials. Season 1 ends with the survivors bracing for an all-out war.
