Waziri hails from a small part of Edo State in southern Nigeria called Afemailand, known for being a harmonious region where Muslims and Christians live—and dance—together. And there, as a devout Muslim and an exemplar of religious piety in his community, Waziri’s music fuses Etsako/Afemai folk styles with pan-Nigerian highlife and pop to create a sublime vehicle for his Islamic philosophy that gets everyone—Muslims, Christians, whoever—on the dancefloor.
This is the 2nd in Waziri's Volume Series, which he made at the peak of his career, in the years leading up to and after he performed his first hajj. For those of you who are interested in going deep on the wonderful Waziri, Vol. 2 is also now available alongside the other four volumes of the series, for the first time ever, as part of a complete set (in a box).

LEENALCHI’s “Crying Softshell Turtle” comes from the Korean folk tale SUGUNGGA, and tells the story of an enterprising turtle on a quest to cure the dragon king by bringing him a sacrificial rabbit, whose liver is the greatest medicine.
Assuming the role of the turtle, they sing “I beg you to open his belly, and I pray to god there is a liver in there. But if there isn’t a liver, you can execute my whole family and tear me to pieces, and I won’t have any regrets. I beseech you, open his belly.”

It was so hard to get our heads around William Onyeabor’s story when we first started working with him. No one knew anything about him and that’s the way he liked it.
Even as we grew to love and respect Mr. Onyeabor (as we called him) we never got the whole picture. And we still know so little.
Now it’s 10 years since releasing Mr. Onyeabor’s records — and its almost what would have been his 79th birthday — so we are releasing two of his magical LPs in COLOR for the first time ever: 1978’s Atomic Bomb in Fission Red and 1980’s Body and Soul in Magic Ministries Blue.")
